Newport Chinese Takeaway nr York and Hull

Hello,
We're back on the road and searching for rice on the road again. Staying at a nearby travelodge this takeaway was 8 miles to get to but only 2 miles to return - the motorway is funny like that. We ordered our usual special fried rice, hold the gravy and also the soya, one tub of sweet and sour sauce and two forks. It didn't disappoint. Yum! 9/10 (but only because it would have to be out of this world to get 10). :D

Hello, back down into England today and Altrincham. Usual ordered, £11.50.
The results were lovely. Huuuge portions of lovely special fried rice. Peas. Pineapple in the sweet and sour. 10/10. :D

Lotus House in Irvine

Hello from a rainy south Scotland! The first Chinese we selected was closed for 2 weeks so we came to the Lotus House. The usual 2x special fried rice, sweet and sour sauce one without soya was ordered. However this came back as Chow Mein and prawn crackers. The chow mein was ok, but the OH couldn't eat them so a return trip for rice was made. Apologies for the error were made, but we were still charged for the rice. (We didn't take back the chow mein, that's probably why). The rice was ok. The meal would have garnered a 5 to 6 out of 10, but because of the mix up we're giving it a 3/10.

Bliss Happiness in Edinburgh

Hello!
Edinburgh today. About as close to our digs as you can get, about 300 meters. I varied my rice dish going for shredded duck fried rice. The OH ordered the normal special fried rice without soya.

9/10 - tasted fantastic, only not given 10 because it would have to out of this world. Ok, maybe it should be 10. I'd definitely return to this takeaway. Lovely!

The Flying Dragon in Stirling

Hello!
We're on tour in Scotland, so a few meals a long way from home coming up. :)

This Chinese was open earlier than 5pm which was great. The usual 2 special fried rice, one without soya and a sweet and sour sauce tub. Unfortunately we'd had a family meal at lunch time in Cumbria, with home made flapjacks in the car, so I wasn't that hungry. I didn't manage to finish, but it was nice. Lots of meat, a fried egg and pineapple chunks in the sauce. Yum! Again no peas, but the pineapple definitely made up for this.
Overall, 8/10.

The Joy King in Ivybridge

Evening,
We were on our way to Lee Mill, but stopped off in Ivy Bridge for this evenings meal. Quite cheap at only £8.50ish, small cartons, but the lack of peas was disturbing. I love peas, maybe there was a choice of peas somewhere else on the menu, but they didn't end up in my meal. :( The rice was nice, but the content on the light side. The sweet and sour sauce runny but nice. All in all 7/10. Cheap and cheerful.

Shanghai in Blandford Forum

Evening all!
Today we're in Dorset in the rural town of Blandford Forum. Although initially heading for a different establishment we squealed to a halt by Shanghai as we drove past. Hurrah for being closer. Today we ordered two Shanghai Rice, one with no soya and a tub of sweet and sour sauce. We're nothing if not predictable! A shade over £10. Starving after a long journey we tucked in! Gourmet meal it wasn't. Large hunks of beef. Very pink sweet and sour. We gave tonight's meal a 6/10. Nothing to write home about, but not nasty. :)

Great Wall in Otley

Today's takeaway is in Otley, same meal as yesterday, 2 x special fried rice one with satay and the other with sweet and sour sauce. £12 on the nose. Quite tasty. Wasn't as hungry as yesterday, so I didn't finish, but it was a large dish. I wish I had finished it though as I managed to tip the remainder of the rice all over my lap. Soon cleared up. :) We'll return to this place too. A not too shabby 9/10 :D

When you're on the road travelling with a fellow traveller with lots of allergies and intolerances it can be hard to find food. So we end up at a lot of Chinese takeaways all over the country.

Today was no different. So on the road north on the A1, we reach Retford. We often stop at this Chinese both northwards and southwards and its always a winner.

Special fried rice with sweet and sour sauce and a second with satay sauce. Prawn crackers. Roughly £12.20. Yum. Finished the lot. :) A great 10/10. :D
